“Click”, “click”, “click”, quick French kiss and that girl ran away disappearing into the crowd. People stood around taking pictures with Sam. Anderson stood right next to him explaining to the onlookers, who Sam really was. Everyone around was eager to take a pic with Sam, not knowing the reality. Slowly making his way out of the crowd, Sam walked towards the exit of the Grand Central station and Anderson followed, not letting the onlookers a chance to realize Anderson was Sam’s friend.
It was approximately 8 months since Sam and Anderson had run away from home and come to the US looking for better opportunities. It was as if bad luck was a gift to these guys, wherever they went, it followed like their girlfriend. After they had come to America, they realized, living was a day to day war. They struggled to make the ends meet at times and had to live on the streets, eat leftovers and work at road side shops to get money. It was one afternoon that Sam and Anderson saw a crowd engulf a young couple outside a famous theatre in Times Square. Sam and Anderson were not sure what was going on, they went near the crowd and realized they were some famous couple.
Something struck Sam, he told Anderson “Why don’t we become famous, huh?”. Anderson was puzzled, but was sure Sam had something in mind to come up with such a crazy idea. The next day Sam stood outside the AMC theatre in Times Square, fully covered. Anderson crossed him and acting like a total stranger, acted very excited after seeing Sam and wanted Sam to sign on his cap and started talking to Sam, making Sam look important. The other onlookers were curious and started asking who Sam was. Anderson started telling that Sam was a famous fashion designer and had come to NY for a shoot. People had no idea whom Anderson was talking about, but were just eager to take a pic with Sam, and noticing this, many people started asking for photographs. One restaurant owner watching this politely asked Sam, if he would like to have lunch in his restaurant, he didn’t expect Sam to accept the offer. Sam after acting as if he was checking his schedule agreed to have a quick lunch but warned the owner not to use his presence as an marketing stunt. Sam and Anderson walked into the restaurant and ate to their fill and were ready to leave when the restaurant owner offered a lump sum and wanted Sam to pose for a photograph with the owner so that he could hang it in the restaurant. Little did the owner know that they were just a bunch of cheaters and no big celebrities.
Sam and Anderson were not aware that their photos were taking a round on the internet and a real celebrity saw their pictures and was curious to know how he was not aware of such famous personalities in the fashion industry. He spread the word to his fellow fashion designers to look out for these guys. Sam and Anderson on the other hand were living happily these days by making themselves look famous. It so happened that one day the famous fashion designer came to the same restaurant where Sam and Anderson had taken pictures with the owner. The fashion designer inquired about Sam and Anderson and gave the owner a card with the name “Ralph Lauren” and asked the owner to call him if he saw Sam and Anderson again.
One fine day when Sam and Anderson walked into the restaurant, the owner called Ralph and told him they were here. Ralph wanted to speak to Sam, when Sam spoke to Ralph without knowing how famous Ralph was, Ralph on the other hand thought Sam was even more famous than Ralph and that is why he didn’t know him. Ralph invited Sam to his place. When Sam went there, he was treated like a real famous guy. Ralph wanted to see how good Sam was, and requested Sam to design something. Sam was sure he was going to be caught, but then thought of his mom who used to make “murukku” and made the same design on the white cloth provided to him and named it “Spiral”. Ralph asked Sam what it meant, but before Sam could reply, Ralph started speaking and explaining that it represented human life and how it went round and round. Sam was speechless and had never heard such an explanation. When Ralph asked if this is what Sam meant, Sam in one word replied ‘Yeah’. Ralph offered Sam 100k and wanted to know if he could use Sam’s art in his next collection. Sam was just dumbstruck but acted cool and said he was ok with it. Ralph also introduced Sam to his other fashion designer friends and Sam was now a famous guy for real and has been living a lavish life ever since. Recently he started his own fashion brand called “Kottambati Designs” or “KD” for short!!!
